As I sit here watching Tennessee football with my husband yelling at the tv screen… I feel sorry for the players.  Even though I’m pretty sure they can’t hear him. The neighbors might… but the players won’t.

But thousands of people are watching this game critiquing their every move. As we watch from afar with our zoom lenses, our instant replays and our rewind buttons, it’s easy to say what they should’ve done. But on the field, inside the box…. not so much. Their field of vision is limited and the pressure is on.

It’s the same in life. It’s so easy to critique the decisions people make from the outside looking in. We often fail to stop and think about what it’s like for them inside the box. The limited vision. The pressure.

I’m sure if we could watch the replay of the movie of our own lives we’d be screaming at the screen too.  No!  Don’t go that way! Don’t go out with him/her!  Don’t take that job! Don’t move to that city! Unfortunately, inside the box, there are things we are unaware of. There are things outside of our field of vision. But not God’s.

God above can see the whole thing play out.  He is the Alpha and Omega.   He knows the beginning from the end. That’s why it’s so important for us to go to the Lord in prayer about everything. Every. Thing.

Big and small. He cares about it all.

When we pray, we give God the opportunity to speak to us in that still small voice. Prayer helps us to align our thoughts with God’s thoughts. To align our will with His will.

Have you ever been praying and an unusual idea pop into your head? A solution that you hadn’t thought of before? That’s God! He will speak to us. He will guide us. If we take the time to go to Him in prayer.

I am reminded of the lyrics to an old hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”

“What a friend we have in Jesus,

all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do not carry

everything to God in prayer!”

Pray with me: Lord forgive me for the times I try to handle things on my own without going to You first. I know Lord, that You know everything, so it’s crazy for me not to consult with You about everything. Help me to do better Lord. Lead me. Guide me. In Your ways Lord. In Jesus ’name, Amen.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” Philippians 4:6 NLT
