Have you ever driven on autopilot, only to realize you were heading the wrong way? That’s how sin works in our lives—patterns so familiar and comfortable that we follow them blindly, even when they lead us away from God.
There are only two spiritual paths: one leads to life with Jesus, the other to separation from God. Jesus made this clear in John 8: “Unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.” He wasn’t speaking as a good teacher or moral example—He was claiming to be God Himself, the source of life and truth.
Many of us think we’re free, but Jesus says, “Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.” Sin begins small and seemingly innocent: just one drink, one time, just this once. But like a playful lion cub that grows wild, sin grows until it controls us. Willpower alone isn’t enough to break free; we need accountability, boundaries, and community.
The beauty of the gospel is that Jesus didn’t come to keep us as slaves—He came to make us sons and daughters of God. A slave has no inheritance, but a child has security, love, and eternal standing in the family of God. As Ephesians 1:5 says, God “predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ.” We’re saved not by our works, but by God’s mercy.
Yet many are comfortable in lies. The religious leaders in John 8 relied on heritage and rules, missing the truth standing before them. We face the same danger today—cultural trends and false teachings can mislead us if we aren’t rooted in God’s Word.
Picture yourself drowning in sin, exhausted and gasping for air. Jesus is the life preserver, reaching out. But it won’t save you unless you grab it. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
We’re not saved because we’re good. Compared to God’s standard, we all fall short—every lie, every lust, every act of anger. But God’s goodness saves us. The wages of sin is death, but God sent His Son so that whoever believes will have eternal life.
Today can be the day you break free from comfortable sin. Today can be the day you move from slavery to sonship, from darkness to light. The truth sets you free—but only if you embrace it. Grab hold of Jesus and let Him save you.
The choice is yours.
