There’s something profound about the changing seasons that reminds us of life’s transitions. As fall colors fade, we’re reminded that everything we do leaves an impression. Have you ever considered that your life might be shaping someone’s faith journey?
People are watching—how we handle challenges, treat others, and live out our faith. Our example either draws people closer to God or pushes them away. That’s why Jesus spoke so strongly in Matthew 18:6: “If you cause one of these little ones who trust in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the sea.”
“Little ones” refers not only to children but to new believers—those still learning what it means to follow God. How we live can either help or hinder their walk with Him.
Three Ways We Influence Faith
- We make faith attractive when we live with authenticity and the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. People are drawn to genuine faith, not perfection.
- We make faith unattractive when we act prideful or judgmental. Jesus calls us to compassion, not condemnation.
- We make faith confusing when our words and actions don’t align. Gossip, hypocrisy, or carelessness with God’s grace misrepresents Him.
The Power of a Godly Example
Think about who influenced your faith. Maybe someone whose quiet faith inspired you or who believed in you when you didn’t believe in yourself. That’s legacy. Even if you feel too tired or too old to serve, your prayers and encouragement still shape others.
We can build people up or tear them down, encourage or discourage. The choice is ours—and it impacts God’s kingdom.
Radical Holiness
In Matthew 18:8–9, Jesus says if your hand or foot causes you to sin, “cut it off.” He wasn’t being literal, but emphasizing how seriously we must remove sin from our lives. Sin always costs more than we expect. Set boundaries, seek accountability, and guard your relationship with God—it’s worth it.
Eternal Reality
Jesus talked more about hell than heaven—not to scare us, but to warn us because He loves us. Everyone will spend eternity either with God or apart from Him. That truth should give us urgency to reach others.
Some people go through life without ever being invited to church. What if you could be that person who points them to Jesus?
The Challenge
Don’t be a stumbling block—be a stepping stone. Ask yourself, If someone followed me this week, where would I lead them? Let your life reflect God’s love and truth so others can find their way to Him.
Your life leaves a trail. Make sure it leads people closer to Christ.
