I still remember the night I saw this sunset. I was on vacation in Florida sitting on the beach with Darrell and Harley and Dixie. I couldn’t believe the orange that took over the blue sky. It’s like God lit a holy fire. I wanted to shout out to everyone around me. I am forever chasing Sunsets and Sunrises. It reflects the beauty and majesty of the natural world, a testament to God’s creation and Glory.
I was thinking:
“Stop!”
“Check out the sky!”
“Can you believe those colors?”
“Isn’t God amazing?”
I looked around and everyone kept doing what they were doing. Playing games , swimming, relaxing, and talking. No one stopped. Didn’t anyone see what I was seeing?
All I knew was I was overwhelmed by the beauty, but I always am. God paints the sky. I must stop and take pictures , pull over to the side of the road anytime. I must stop. Yes, I’m the one pulled over on Peavine on my way to work taking pictures. I can’t just drive by.
So why does God give us the beauty of the changing skies? I know of at least two reasons.
1. To show us His creative Hand at work.
Psalms 19:1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. (NLT)
2. To remind us of His love and faithfulness.
I will praise you , LORD, among the nations: I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Psalms 108:3-4 (NIV)
I love that God paints an ever-changing portrait, day and night, for all to see. A sweet, wonderful reminder of who He is.
God is with us. Do you need a reminder today?
If so, I dare you to look up. How great it is to live under a sky that is repainted every day by the Greatest artist.
God highlights the ever-changing canvas of our lives that are changing and growing us for the better: like praying through anxiety or finding the glimmers of beauty in what appears broken. Parts of what makes up the canvas of our lives. It might be the choices we make that don’t serve us well, such as saying “yes” to activities and people when we ought to say “no” or “not now”. Or taking offense easily and holding grudges, while other colors are purposely painted to deepen our dependence on Him.
Our canvas like the sky displays all of this. He continues to paint, increasing the layers, adding dimension, and building upon the colors and textures of years past to build a life-long masterpiece.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Never forget who paints the sky and our canvas’….that same God loves you with all His heart. It’s easy to forget that the same God who painted sunsets and sunrises also created us, intentionally and wonderfully. Don’t let self-doubt creep in. Embrace your unique beauty and purpose in His eyes! God’s unfailing love and mercy are as fresh as the morning and sure as the sunrise.
