One of my favorite worship songs is
“Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong. One of the lines says, “I am who You say I am.”
It’s true. We are who God says we are. Do you believe that?
Many times, we allow the way we see ourselves to get clouded by the opinions of others. If we’re not careful, we’ll begin to focus more on the negative than the positive aspects of our lives. We end up living according to who the world says we are. And we become overly critical and judgmental of ourselves.
Here are some important things to remember when you find yourself being critical of yourself :
- If you speak negatively to yourself, you will act negatively toward yourself.
- If you call yourself a loser – you’re not likely to walk out and act like a winner.
- If you call yourself worthless you’re not likely to expect others to treat you with respect.
- If you tell yourself you’re stupid, you’re less likely to make smart decisions.
- If you tell yourself you’re not good enough, you will lower your standards.
- As the old saying goes- whether you tell yourself you can’t or you can- you’re probably right.
It’s time to start saying, “I can!” Or better yet, start saying, “I am!”
I am “fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14
I am“forgiven” 1 John 1:9
I am “a child of God” 1 John 3:1
I am “no longer a slave to sin” Romans 6:18
I am“loved” Romans 5:8
Say nice things to yourself today. Make a list of the things you like about yourself. It’s not being prideful or conceited-it’s recognizing and appreciating God’s unique creation-
YOU!

Great blog! Words speak life or death – even to ourselves!
