Have you ever felt like there is a whirlwind of junk going on in your life?
Where your brain gets so consumed with the stress of this life, it begins to feel like white-noise that blocks out every good thought. Every smile, every laugh, every memory is immediately put away by your worry about tomorrow? Yeah? Don’t worry, you’re not alone and there is always a voice calling you home through the noise.
I had a 2000 F150 a couple years ago, not a single special feature on this truck. It had manual windows, manual door locks, no tilt wheel, even came with a state of the art AM/FM radio… yep, no CD player… At that time, in Crossville we only had one Christian radio station, it was out of Chattanooga, 103.1. I listened to this station pretty much 100% of the time. Until it became very “static-y”, I’m not sure if this was an issue with the station or my truck. It pretty much would go back and forth between music with a little static to loud static with some music in the background to not hearing anything but static. As you could imagine this got very annoying. Prior to coming to church I listened to a lot of country music. So I decided to switch over and give it a shot, the country station came in perfectly and played a lot of the same songs I used to love. But I quickly came to the conclusion that these songs, for me, were pointless. I think secular music is fine, but it’s just not for me. So despite barely being able to understand it, I changed my radio back to 103.1.
A couple weeks go by and I was talking to Jessica about the problem with 103.1, she said she had experienced the same issues and has been listening to CD’s. (lucky her…) As we were talking about options for me, I had a bit of word vomit, but in a good way. I said,
“It’s okay, I can hear God through the noise.”
As soon as those words left my lips, I just thought… wow, that’s life.
In life, we will all have our fair share of noise. Noise that tries to block God out, noise that tries to direct your attention away from God, noise that tries to bury you in hopelessness. This noise can come in many different shapes and sizes, a break up, an accident, an illness in the family, or a death in the family, this noise could be a loss of finances or someone you love being angry at you.
This noise may appear like a hopeless situation. But the bible is full of hopeless situations, David vs. Goliath, The wall around Jericho, Gideon and the 300, Lazarus was buried and Jesus was dead on a cross, all of these were hopeless situations.
But there is one common denominator, God.
You can rejoice and know that God is always on the other side of the noise, He’s always ready to come to show up and rescue you, you need only look for Him through it.
and call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Psalm 50:15
As soon as I heard the noise, my instinct was to turn to solutions of this world, in this case it was the secular radio stations. In times of noise in our life, our instincts are to turn to this world for solutions, but this world will always fall short. To get through the noise, you look for God through it.
Psalm 9:9-10 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Remember in times of noise, God is a refuge, a stronghold in times of trouble. He is always there even through the noise.
