Have you ever felt weary from the battle?
Like there are just so many things going on in your life that you just can’t keep up anymore? You’re just tired? Burnt out?
I love the story found in Exodus 17:8-13 where the nation of Israel is fighting against the Amalekites. While Joshua led the troops, Moses went up onto a hill overlooking the battlefield and held up the staff of God. As long as Moses’ arms were raised, the Lord gave the Israelites success, but whenever he lowered them, the enemy gained the advantage. So Aaron and Hur stood on each side of him and held his hands up until the sun went down and the victory was won.
– Do you have a friend like that? One that will step in and help you when you just don’t have the energy to keep going?
– Are you a friend like that? One who is willing to put forth the effort and the time to help someone?
The Bible doesn’t say that Moses asked for help in this situation, but I have to believe that either he did so verbally or physically with a look or a nod of the head. Contrary to popular belief, saying that you need help is not a sign of weakness. It’s actually a sign of strength. It says, “I’m not willing to give up. I want to keep going. I just need a little help.”
We all need a little help from time to time. That’s what we do as Christians. We strengthen each other and hold each other’s hands through hard times.
Is there someone this week that you could help? Look for opportunities to serve others by lending a helping hand or a listening ear.
Do you need help? Don’t hesitate to ask.
“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT)
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to help each other. Help us to recognize and fill the needs of those around us and to always be looking for ways to lift each other up and not tear each other down. Thank you for the Aarons and the Hurs that you have led into my life. Show me opportunities to be that to someone else. All for Your glory Lord. Amen.
