Hello friends,
The last blog I posted was about the importance of theology. Yes, a sound theology to back up your beliefs is important, but what is the purpose of knowing the theology if there is not a relationship with God? Worship, prayer, and openhearted study are the best ways to speak with Him. Just like any relationship, we can not expect spiritual growth without communication.
As a volunteer on the worship team, I can not emphasize enough the importance of worship. Singing God’s praises and feeling His presence is the most surreal yet comforting practice. It doesn’t have to be loud and it doesn’t have to be public either; the most important part in our hearts must be open. When our hearts are open and willing to accept God as we sing, He can inspire us, He can speak to us, and He can touch our lives. We just need to be willing vessels.
Being a willing vessel is a common theme with communication. We have to be accepting of anything and everything God tells us. Prayer strengthens our connection with Him. An honest prayer opens our hearts to be spoken to, and when we tell Him everything on our mind, we put ourselves in the position of a child telling our parent about a mistake. Prayer is a powerful tool to build our relationship with God.
I realize last month I talked about theology, but the purpose of addressing the importance of spirituality and theology is to show how both are important in a walk with Christ. One of the best examples of this is a study. If we read God’s word with an open heart and mind, He can shape our lives in amazing ways. There is nothing more beautiful than His hand in our lives. If we allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us through our studies, we can improve our knowledge of God as well as our relationship with Him.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
At the end of the day, it is up to us to pursue a balanced relationship with God. We must desire to know Him because although we will never be able to truly understand Him, he desires to know us.
