Here’s what it is not.
Faith is not a cliche.
Faith is not imaginary.
Faith is not just a name.
Faith is not just Christian lingo.
Faith is not easy.
But it’s not impossible either.
So what is faith? According to the all-knowing Google, faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Complete trust. This is different than regular trust, regular trust is letting a friend borrow your car. Complete trust is emptying your entire bank account and giving it to your friend. Do you trust anyone that much?
Faith is complete and total trust. So do we completely and totally trust God? The answer here is easy enough to say, “Sure I do!” But what about when the enemy attacks, when the unexpected happens, when you get the call you never wanted, when your marriage takes a turn for the worst, when your temptations fire back up, what about when you are feeling overwhelmed at work, with the kids, with the spouse? What about then? Do you still trust God or is that trust pushed to the wayside while you handle whatever the current problem at hand is?
In Joshua 6, God instructs Joshua to march around the city of Jericho for seven days and on the seventh day, the city would be given to them. Something interesting happens with Joshua on the final day.
Joshua 6:16 – The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!
“Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!”
Joshua had true absolute faith, He knew the victory was his even though he was still in the midst of the battle. He knew he had already won because of Who he put his faith in. He knew that God would take care of His children, that He would show up and the city would be theirs because that is what God promised.
Do we completely and totally trust God… with everything? It’s easy to SAY we trust God, it’s another to show it. Can we show our faith while in the middle of the valley? Can we demonstrate our trust when we don’t see a way out? Can we shout out in victory when all we see is a wall of defeat in front of us?
Jesus said in Matthew 17:20 – He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Faith is simply this, saying and responding like you totally completely trust God. Whatever the situation, whatever walls come before you, however hard the enemy attacks, whatever the call says, however, your loved ones respond, I will trust You. I may not know the outcome but I know where the victory lies. I will totally and completely place my faith in Jesus and Jesus alone. It is not easy but it is worthwhile.
Whatever you face today, it is not the end, God is good and He is fighting for you. God has a plan and a purpose, God’s plan may not be your plan but it is good and it will not fail.
Promises of God you can have Absolute Faith in:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. – Romans 10:9
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2
