Christmas is almost here!  If you’re anything like me, you’ve been rushing around trying to find the perfect gifts for your loved ones.  But there’s always that one.  You know the one.  The one that you simply can not think of anything to buy for.

My Dad is that one for me.  If he needs something, he buys it.  And if he wants something… well he just doesn’t want very much.  He’s pretty content with what he already has.  Yet I continue to search for the perfect gift.

Ok, ok… to be completely honest with you, I do know what he really wants.  But it can’t be bought in a store.   He really wants his children.  No, he doesn’t want our presents.  He simply wants our presence.  Our presence at the dinner table, our presence on the couch watching TV,  just our presence.  He wants to talk with us and listen in as we talk to each other.  He wants to watch the grandchildren play and hear their laughter throughout the house.  He just wants us.

Our Heavenly Father is much the same.  He just wants us.  He just wants us to spend time with Him.  He wants us to sit with Him and talk with Him and just be present.

When is the last time that you just sat in God’s presence?

As the hustle and bustle increases all around us, I encourage you this holiday season to take a moment to slow down and just linger in the presence of your Heavenly Father.  He longs for that.

As I type these thoughts, the words to a beautiful old song come to mind:

“In the presence of Jehovah

God Almighty, Prince of Peace

Troubles vanish, hearts are mended

In the presence of the King”

As you spend more time in His presence,  I pray that no matter how good or how bad this earthly life seems to be going, you will find a peace that passeth all understanding.  I pray that you find that the more time you spend with Your Lord and Savior the more time You desire to spend with Him.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

James 4:8

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Hebrews 4:16

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Lord, thank You for Your presence in our lives.  Thank You that You are always attentive to our lives.  Lord draw us near to You this holiday season.  Let us not get distracted by the earthly hustle and bustle.  Let us draw away from the crowds, just as Jesus did to meet with You.  Lord meet us in that quiet place.   Speak to our hearts.  Guide us in all our ways that we may bring glory and honor to You in everything we say and do.  In Jesus’ precious name,

Amen.
